The VCP-DCV Exam

The VCP-DCV exam is a timed proctored exam and is administered through Pearson VUE Testing Centers nationwide. In order to register for the exam, you must first create an account with VMware myLearn portal.  Once created, this is where you will schedule the exam when you are ready to take it, and where your transcripts will reside.*

Pearson Vue will verify you are eligible to sit the exam first with VMware, making sure you have taken the required authorized class necessary for you to certify. The exam cost $225.00 and consists of 135 questions that you must answer in 120 minutes. That equates to 53 seconds a question, and some questions take that long to read.   So you need to know the material cold or you run the risk of falling behind and running out of time. To pass the exam you need a score of 70% or higher.

*Note: VMware has decided to no longer designate the version of VCP that someone is certified on.  If you certify on vSphere the designation will simply be VCP, not VCP5 or VCP6.  This designation will be good for 2 years, upon which VCP holders will need to recertify.

The Exam itself can be broken down into 7 categories:

Topic 1 – vCenter Server and VMware ESXi
Topic 2 – vSphere Networking
Topic 3 – vSphere Storage
Topic 4 – Virtual Machines and vApps
Topic 5 – Establish and Maintain Service Levels
Topic 6 – Perform Basic Troubleshooting
Topic 7 – Monitor a vSphere Implementation

The VCP Test Preparation Package here is organized along these topics to help you properly prepare for the exam, expose you to similar questions to what you will see on the exam, and how they might be phrased.  Also, all questions come with a detailed explanation as to what the correct answer is, sharpening your test taking skills, eliminate clutter and drill down into exactly what is being asked, and logically re-enforce learning objectives while they practice for the exam.

Important!  Classroom Training Pre-requisite

To certify on VMware’s vSphere product at the professional level, VMware has a minimum course requirement for all candidates.  Prior to being allowed to taking the exam, students must validate they have sat the prerequisite authorized class.  Alert!  The most popular class that meets the minimum requirement for VMware is the VMware vSphere Install, Configure, Manage course.  This course doesn’t cover the entire exam blueprint, so additional coursework, experience, or study will be needed to pass the exam.

So there you go. If you are only interested in certifying on VMware vSphere, then we highly recommend you enroll in the 5 day VMware vSphere Install Configure, Manage class. We also include an online test prep study package to help fill in the gaps of the blue print and get you ready to pass the exam.

Target Audience: Seasoned System Administrators with 1-3 years experience on VMware vSphere Technologies. Students who are required by their employer to have this certification.
